Oak Lawn was surrounded by an
elegant brick wall with open work top and four colonial
gates. In front, an avenue of virgin oaks interlaced
above for a quarter of a mile and cedars were planted to
lengthen the driveway for almost a mile. Betsy Latta
Davidson made the lawn noted for its gardens and the
homestead for its piety and music. |
At the McCoy road entrance to
Cedarfield you will find the Oak Lawn plantation house which
is on the National Register of Historic Places. Oak
Lawn is a traditional Georgia-Federal style plantation house
that was built by Benjamin Wilson Davidson in 1818, the same
year he married Elizabeth Latta.
